چکیده
Guiding and confining light at interfaces is crucial for applications involving light–matter interactions, such as surface spectroscopy, nonlinear optics, quantum information technology. While dielectric waves offer promising perspectives strong confinement non-absorbing interfaces, their capacity has not yet been widely explored. This article focuses on the propagation properties of optical modes supported free a 1D photonic crystal. The contributions intrinsic extrinsic loss mechanisms are investigated. Surface Plasmon Waves on noble metals at Optical Wavelengths
In this paper the variation of the propagation constant, the attenuation coefficient, penetration depth inside the metal and the dielectric has been evaluated. The propagation characteristics of Surface Plasmon Waves (SPWs) which exists on noble metals like gold (Au), silver (Ag) and aluminium (Al) due to the formation of Surface Plasmon Polaritons (SPPs), have been evaluated theoretically and ...
متن کاملOptical Interferometry : Imaging at Visible and Infrared Wavelengths
Progress in astronomy is dependent on the development of new instrumentation that can provide data which are better in some way than the data which were available before. One improvement that has consistently led to astronomical discoveries is that of seeing finer detail in objects. In astronomy, the majority of the objects under study cannot easily be brought closer for inspection, so the typi...
متن کاملOptical Dyakonov surface waves at magnetic interfaces.
We address the existence and properties of lossless surface waves that form at interfaces between magnetic and birefringent media. We show that the angular domain of existence of Dyakonov surface waves for magnetic interfaces is significantly larger than that for nonmagnetic ones. Our results have important implications for the experimental generation of surface waves and for their potential ap...
متن کاملMagnetostatic surface waves propagation at dissipative ferrite-MTMs-metal structure
The magnetostatic surface waves (MSSW) propagation in a layered structure composed of ferrite film covered by air and on top of metamaterial (MTM) placed on metal is discussed. Dispersion equations which relate the parameters of different layers are derived and used to analyse propagation of MSSW. It is found that the MSSW excitation band depends on the thickness of the MTM layer and ferrite la...
متن کاملOn-chip frequency comb generation at visible wavelengths via simultaneous second- and third-order optical nonlinearities.
Microresonator-based frequency comb generation at or near visible wavelengths would enable applications in precise optical clocks, frequency metrology, and biomedical imaging. Comb generation in the visible has been limited by strong material dispersion and loss at short wavelengths, and only very narrowband comb generation has reached below 800 nm. We use the second-order optical nonlinearity ...
